Resolution #4: Give Fish Some Slack, and Opt for Flax Instead: UN Says Warming Threatens Fish Stocks

Running out of commercial fish stocks may come sooner than expected. According to the recent U.N. Environment Program report, the rise of global temperatures, environmental degradation, and overfishing can bring the end to the mass consumption of fish within decades.

According to the Associated Press, more than 2.6 billion people get most of their protein from fish.

The solution? The report mentions that countries can help fisheries if they reduced global carbon emissions and stopped overfishing and damaging fishing practices such as bottom trawling.

But what about the consumer? Consumers can consider incorporating vegetarian sources of nutrition in their diets. Diets with flax seed, avocado, and rape seed oil would provide omega 3's, a fatty acid abundantly found in fish.

Consuming less fish would allow fish populations to revitalize, and it would reduce the pollution and environmental damage caused from the commercial fishing industry.
